Indigenous Farm Walk and Truth Telling Gathering

Date: Jun 6, 2026 (Sat)

Time: 3:00am

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The day starts off with an immersive Abinake dialect morning tour of Horses-n-Harleys Farm, led by Jesse Bruchac. As we walk the farm, Jesse will reveal how words from the Abinake dialect have morphed into our English language words that we know for different aspects of nature and animals. Through the sound of the indigenous dialect, the sounds of nature and the animals - we will come into an experiential understanding of the connection we all share with the land. After lunch, Professor Mike Tarbell will lead us on an indigenous truth-telling adventure - revealing insights into the real history of this farm, the Mohawk valley and the indigenous peoples of the North East. The day will conclude with a sung performance of the French Operatic Aria sung by Colonel Louis Cooke in the forests at Schyulerville (Professor Tarbell's Great Great Grandfather). A gathering by the firepits and in the teepee will follow.
